So we go another week. At least this time my update is positive!
Expect to see some major changes with the blog format. I'm really not that happy with this code, and I'm poking around with a couple other things that could make for a better multi-blog, since that's the format I think I need to take this whole "Jerry's Site" thing.
However, that's not my focus here - my focus is exercising, losing weight, and gettin' my butt into shape!
Yesterday, I decided to hit the medical scale that's sitting in the apartment complex's gym - I'm down over 4 pounds from my last weigh in. I'm losing a bit more slowly than I would like to be, but considering I haven't made huge strides on the diet side, it's unsurprising.
Exercise-wise, I'm still walking, although the past couple days have seen me walking quite a bit less than I'd been pushing myself to. Part of that is that my shoes need to be replaced with something more suitable to walking. They also need to not push my arches as hard as this pair does. The wear pattern on my current pair of shoes is very distinctive - heal along the the outside of my foot. Maybe it's a vestige of the way I had to learn to walk when I was in marching band WAY back in High School, but somehow, I doubt it.
I did, however, manage to meet my personal goal for 'steps' last week, I just need one more day this week to meet it for this week. That alone fully explains why I've dropped weight while not changing the diet much. The only real change there was drinking less soda, and slowly getting off of refined crap.
There are a lot of dietary pundits out there. Most of them have some bit of information that I believe is generally true (and keeping myself honest, I am NOT a dietitian or nutritionist), but most of them are spewing crap. I am not a fan of 100% vegan diets, while I agree that there are positive benefits to eating less meat, and limiting the types of meat that are consumed. I fully agree with those that rail against things like HFCS and the over-consumption of highly processed foods. I also think that man really does need animal-based proteins and other nutrients. And even more, those that argue that diet should be tailored to each individual's tastes and needs are, again IMO, closest to the mark.
So, my goal, then, diet-wise, is to figure out what is going to work 'best' for me and my metabolism, as well as what the kids and wife will also eat. That's the part of this that makes diet changes hard - they have to also be palatable to everyone else in the house, too.
Ta!
